Virginia Ellen Hixon Cavender

Virginia Ellen Hixon Cavender, 79,  of Warfordsburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 after a lengthy illness.

Virginia was born at home in Buck Valley, Pennsylvania, to the late Grant Rohm and Carolyn Smith Hixon.  She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Erik Goetz of Hagerstown; son -in-law, John Bowers, Sr, of Hancock, MD; grandchildren, John Bowers Jr, of Hancock and Heath and Mara Goetz of Hagerstown; sisters Kay Hixon Davis of Warfordsburg, PA, and  Norma L. Hixon Hill and husband Robert, of  Fort Washington, MD; brother Gary G. Hixon and wife Lola, of Berkeley Springs, WV;  sister-in-law, Patricia Johnson and husband James, also of Warfordsburg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister,  Betty Jane Hixon, her brother, Ronald Rohm Hixon, both of Warfordsburg, PA, and her daughter, Carolyn Ellen Bowers of Hancock, MD.

 Though she was retired, Virginia held a variety of positions throughout her lifetime, including  that of a correctional officer at Roxbury Correctional Institution in Hagerstown , MD. Virginia was a loving  mother and grandmother as well as a gifted gardener, quilter, and textile artist.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Buck Valley Park, 6677 Buck Valley Road in Warfordsburg, PA, Sunday, April,21, starting at 3:00pm, for friends and family to honor her memory.
