Virginia Pearl Gordon, age 89, of Big Cove Tannery, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center, in Hagerstown, Md.

Born April 7, 1923, in Hancock, Md., she was the daughter of the late Roy Theodore and Lola Estella Stewart Coffman, and the widow of Henry R. Gordon, who died November 11, 1991.

She was a 1941 graduate of Hancock High School.

She retired as a manager from the PennDOT I-70 West Welcome Center, in Warfordsburg, Pa.

She was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn V. Hollenshead and husband, Frank, of Needmore, Pa., and Sara Jean Landers and husband, Harry, of Antonito, Co.; four sons, Ross H. Gordon and wife, Shirley, of Needmore, Pa., Roy W. Gordon, and Robert L. Gordon, both of Big Cove Tannery, and David Steven Gordon, of Warfordsburg, Pa.; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; and eleven great- great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Roy James Gordon, John David Hollenshead, and Monica Elaine Gordon; two sisters, Lola Grace Huth, and Dorothy Lee Legge; nine brothers, Roy Theodore Coffman, Robert Luther Coffman, Raymond Edward Coffman, Roy Francis Coffman, Harry Lester Coffman, Clarence Hunter Coffman, Walter Michael Coffman, Carl (Todd) Curtis Coffman, and Joseph Donald Coffman.

A service will be held on Monday, March 18, at 11:00 a.m., at the Damascus Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery, Pa. Rev. Dan Porterfield will officiate. Burial will be in the Damascus Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and at the Church on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. For the convenience of family and friends the Funeral Home will be open from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
