Vernon F. Fritz, 86, of Little Cove, Pa., passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at his home, with his beloved wife and family by his side. Born April 2, 1930, in Little Cove, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Bair Fritz.

At the age of eighteen, Vernon joined the National Guard, from which he received an Honorable Discharge. As a young man, he worked for the Western Maryland Railroad, in Baltimore, Md. Later, he was employed by Martin Marietta Aggregates in Boonsboro, Md. He retired as the Plant Superintendent in 1992, after being employed there for forty years.

He was a member of the Little Cove United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music and watching westerns on the television. He also enjoyed spending time visiting with his family and many friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Louise Johnson Fritz, whom he married on July 15, 1950, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; three children, Larry V. Fritz, of Hancock, Md., Barbara K. Keefer and husband, Jamie, of Little Cove, and April N. Daley and husband, Jamie, of Greencastle, Pa.; two grandchildren, Vernon E. McCarty and wife, Rachael, of Little Cove, and Victoria R. Daley, of Greencastle, Pa.; three great-grandchildren, Garrett E. McCarty, Josephine D. McCarty, and John V. McCarty; two brothers, Gail Fritz, of Big Pool, Md., and Clair Fritz, of Seven Valleys, Pa.; and a sister, Patsy McGowan, of Hancock, Md. He will also be missed by his four-legged companions, Maggie and Otis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Diane Fritz McCarty; a son-in-law, Gary “Dave” McCarty; and two sisters, LaRue Fritz Johnson and Marvel Fritz Moats.

A memorial service will be held at the Little Cove United Methodist Church, 12599 Little Cove Road, in Mercersburg, Pa., on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Harry Strite and Pastor Frank Kocek will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.
