Sylvan Lee “Buck” Hendershot, age 79, of Warfordsburg, died on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at his home.

Born October 23, 1934, he was the son of the late Carl R. and Marie Fischer Hendershot, and the husband of Gertrude “Trudy” Foro Hendershot, of Warfordsburg, whom he married January 14, 1961 in Palmyra, N.Y.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Hancock.

Buck loved the outdoors; he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was a 1953 graduate of Southern Fulton High School.

Among his various occupations throughout his life, a co-owner of Hendershot’s Sporting Goods, in Hancock; a truck driver; retired construction worker; and was a life-time farmer.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lorie Hendershot, of Queen Creek, Az., Sharon Warner and husband, Robert, of Hagerstown, Md., and Heidi Hendershot, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two sisters, Norma Ward and husband, Clifford, of Hancock, Md., and Madeline Ward and husband, Billy, of Warfordsburg; one brother, Gerald Hendershot and wife, Marcia, also of Warfordsburg; and two grandchildren, Garrett and Dallin Warner.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Hendershot; and one grandson, Cameron Warner.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 27, at 1:00 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 200 Douglas Street, Hancock, Md. Brother Gerald Hendershot will officiate. Burial, with military honors by the Tri-State Honor Guard, will follow in the Buck Valley Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home. 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8p.m., and at the Church on Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
