Sandra Mary Meijer

Sandra Mary Meijer (née Prokop), age 86, passed away peacefully April 27, 2025, in Hagerstown, MD. Born May 3, 1938, in New London, CT. Sandra was the daughter of John and Ida Prokop of East Lyme, CT. She proudly served her country as a member of the United States Navy and later continued her dedication to public service through a distinguished civilian career, retiring as a GS-12 from the U.S. Civil Service.

Sandra was deeply rooted in her faith and was a devoted member of Saints Peter and Patrick Catholic Church in Hancock, MD. Her love for reading brought her joy throughout her life and reflected her thoughtful nature and enduring curiosity. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Alicia Laird Williams; stepdaughter Jeanette Meijer of the Netherlands; grandchildren: U.S. Army Officer Timothy John Williams, granddaughter-in-law Jessica Williams, David Benjamin Williams, granddaughter-in-law Raeh Williams, Marina Williams Manning, son-in-law Nathan Manning, and Justin Brakkee of the Netherlands; great-grandsons AJ Manning and Elijah Heuring Williams; great-granddaughter Eleni Heuring Williams. Sandra also leaves behind her brother John Prokop and his wife Maggi of East Lyme, CT; along with nieces and nephews: John, Lori, Joe, Lisa, and Jeff. Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved husband Johannes Meijer of Hancock, MD, formerly of the Netherlands, who served with honor in the Dutch Navy, and son-in-law Thomas W. Williams of St. Leonard, MD. She was also predeceased by her parents, John and Ida Prokop of East Lyme, CT. 

Sandra’s life was marked by service to others and quiet strength. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. 

Services to be held Friday, June 20, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, MD. Father Jack Lombardi will officiate.
