With profound sadness we announce the passing of Ruth Ann Shives, loving wife and mother, who died on August 2, 2024, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 73 years old.
Ruth Ann is survived by her husband Ronald Shives of Hancock, MD; their children, Heidi Kenyon and husband, Kent of Berthoud, CO; Anna Shives of Hancock, MD; and Klara Ramnath and husband, Alan of Adamstown, MD; a granddaughter, Emilia Kenyon; brother Michael Hennig of Falls Church, VA; and sister, Laura Sue Free and husband, Gordon of Freeland, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Otto Hennig of Indiana, PA; her father-in-law, Gene Shives of Warfordsburg, PA; and sister-in-law, Pat Keller of Falls Church, VA.
Ruth Ann was born on November 19, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended Penn State University, in State College, PA, where she met and married her best friend, Ron. They were married for 51 years.
Ruth Ann had a long and varied career. She worked as a Quality Assurance Coordinator for Valley View nursing home in Berkeley Springs, WV and as a Records Assistant at a doctor’s office in Martinsburg, WV. Later in life, Ruth Ann taught computer skills at Hagerstown Community College and Frederick Community College, then transitioned to database administration at Fannie Mae, The Hershey Corporation., and FINRA, respectively, before retiring in 2012. She also enjoyed many crafting hobbies such as crocheting, quilting and jewelry making. She was known for her enthusiasm and her positive outlook on life. Ruth Ann will be greatly missed.
A memorial service for Ruth Ann is scheduled for 1:00pm on Wednesday, August 7th at the Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home 141 West Main Street, Hancock, MD. It will be immediately followed by a graveside burial ceremony at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3738 Resley Rd, Hancock, MD. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 6th from 4:00pm-7:00pm and on Wednesday, August 7th from 12:00pm-1:00pm.
