Russell Francis, age 90, of Hancock, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born March 10, 1922, in Phelps, Ky., he was the son of the late Joseph Francis and Vesta Sanders Francis Faith.


He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the Tonoloway Rod & Gun Club, and the Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, both in Hancock, Md., and also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

He was always involved in family activities, and coached softball in his earlier years.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and bingo player.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Mae Miller Francis, whom he married September 25, 1951, at the Hancock United Methodist Church; one daughter, Janice Nelson and husband, Herman, of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; three sons, Russell Francis, Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Hancock, William Joseph Francis and fiancée, Tina Peck, of Needmore, Pa., Donald Lynn Francis and wife, Linda, of Warfordsburg, Pa.; brothers, Jeremiah Faith, and Elzie Faith, Jr.; sisters, Della Mills, and Zelda Bullis; grandchildren, Jenna Diehl, Cally Stotler, Jerry Stotler, Timothy Farmer, Brooke Francis, John Francis and Riley Francis; great-grandchildren, William Diehl, III, Tiffany Diehl, Anthony Farmer, and Brandon Farmer; great-great-granddaughter, Lacy Diehl; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by step-father, Elzie Faith, Sr.; brothers, Vergil Francis, Norman Faith and Joseph Francis, Jr.; and sisters, Gertrude Bishop and Beulah Kerns.

A service will be held Monday, April 16, at 11:00 a.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, in Hancock, Md. Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr. will officiate. Burial, with a military service by the Tri-State Honor Guard, will be in the Parkhead Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6  to 8 p.m. For the convenience of family and friends, the Funeral Home will be open from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
