Ronald Eugene Hendershot, age 72, of Hancock, Maryland, died on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the Saint Mary's Medical Center, in Huntington, W.Va.

Born Friday, June 23, 1944, in Fulton County, Pa., he was the son of Donald and Helen (Leasure) Hendershot, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon S. (Reed) Hendershot, whom he married July 25, 1981, in Hancock.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He later worked for Mack Truck, in Hagerstown, Md., in assembly.

He was a member of the Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, in Hancock, where he was a past post commander and chaplain; and a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He had also served as a member of the Tri-State Honor Guard; and he volunteered at the VA Medical Center, in Martinsburg, W.Va.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Derick Shane Hendershot, of Hancock, and Ryan Edward Hendershot, of Hagerstown, Md.; three grandchildren, Sarah, Ashley and Ivy Hendershot; four sisters, Michelle Sipes, of Falling Waters, W.Va., Marsha Keebaugh, of Needmore, Pa., Sharon Morris, of Mercersburg, Pa., and Donna Hendershot, of Warfordsburg, Pa.; three brothers, Jackson Hendershot, of Wilksboro, Pa., Kenneth Hendershot, of Hancock, and Richard Hendershot, of Lintz, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 19, 2017, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Orchard Ridge Church of God, 14128 Orchard Ridge Road, in Hancock.

Funeral services will be held at the church on Friday, January 20, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeffrey Hawbaker officiating. Burial will take place at the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, in Flintstone, Md., on Tuesday, January 24 at 1:00 p.m. with military rites conducted by the Tri-State Honor Guard.
