Robert William “Bob” Bivens, age 85, of Hancock, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md.
He was born July 2, 1927, in Warren, Pa.
He was a retired truck driver for U.S. Silica.
He was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, in Hancock; a member of Teamsters Local 992, Hagerstown, Md.; and a volunteer and coach for the Hancock Little League.
Spring was his favorite time of the year. He loved taking care of his yard and flowers. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. He was an avid storyteller.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Florence R. Pryor Bivens; two sons, Robert J. Bivens, of Reisterstown, Md., Michael L. Bivens, of Hancock; one daughter Sandy J. Moats-Thigpen, of Middletown, Md.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jane Bivens, and Ethel Bivens; four brothers, John Bivens, Homer Bivens, Raymond Bivens and Paul Bivens.
A service will be held Friday, May 17, at 11 a.m., at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 2 East High Street, Hancock. Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, Md.
The family will receive friends at the Church on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock Little League, P.O. Box 344, Hancock, Md. 21750, or to St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 2 East High Street, Hancock, Md. 21750
Arrangements were handled by the Grove Funeral Home, in Hancock.
