Olive Ferne Comerer, 98, of Chambersburg, Pa., died on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at The Shook Home, in Chambersburg.
Born April 16, 1918, in Fulton County, Thompson Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Henry Wishart and Bessie Gordon Wink.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John Calvin Comerer, who died in November, 2004; and two sisters, Estalene Wink Gregory and Helen Wink Corman Stahley.
She was a 1934 graduate of Hancock High School, in Hancock, Md.
She was a housewife, and former employee of Jacobs Brothers, Inc. and London Fog Industries, of Hancock, Md.
She was a member of the Damascus Christian Church, in Fulton County, Pa., and a former member of the Rehoboth Methodist Church, in Fulton County, where she served as a pianist for many years.
She was a member of the Warfordsburg Lioness Club, of Warfordsburg, Pa. during the time of its’ existence.
She was most recently a member of the Buds of Promise Sunday School class at the King Street Church, in Chambersburg.
She was a resident of the Quarters at The Shook, and The Shook Home, for over eleven years, where she enjoyed playing bingo, and playing the piano in the residents’ activity room, for the benefit of residents and staff personnel.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol F. Duvall (wife of Stiles), of Harrisonville, Pa.; a son, John C. Comerer, III (husband of Carol), of Chambersburg, Pa.; two grandsons; three granddaughters; four great-grandsons; five-great-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson; and two great-great-granddaughters.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, September 12, 2016, at the Damascus Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery Road, Big Cove Tannery, Pa. The Rev. Roger Truax will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon, prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in the Damascus Cemetery immediately following the service. Wesley Comerer, Paul Detar, Gordon Duvall, Stiles Duvall, Andrew Houston and Kyle Houston will serve as pallbearers.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Shook Home Benevolent Fund, 55 South Second Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
