Norma “Sally” Payne, 89, of Berkeley Springs, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on August 13, 2026.
Born on July 27, 1937, Sally was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her faith in the Lord was exceptionally strong and served as the foundation of her life. She trusted God wholeheartedly and found strength, comfort, and joy in her relationship with Him. She shared that faith through the way she lived, loved, and cared for others.
She attended Warfordsburg High School, where she participated in basketball and track and field. She worked various jobs throughout her life, eventually retiring from London Fog and McDonald’s. Sally was a devoted member of Hancock Assembly of God. She also generously volunteered with the Red Cross for many years, helping organize local blood drives.
Sally enjoyed traveling with the senior center, family, and friends, taking bus trips, shopping, walking, and exercising. Above all, she treasured her family and the time she spent with those she loved. Her warmth, devotion, and unwavering faith will be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Norman Schetrompf and his wife, Patricia, of Berkeley Springs; two grandsons, Adam Schetrompf and his wife, Audrey of Gilbert, AZ, and Jason Schetrompf and his wife, Holly, of Berkeley Springs; four great-grandchildren, Caleb Schetrompf, Anastasia Schetrompf of Gilbert AZ, Emily Yost, and Madelynn Schetrompf of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Arlene Lemmert of Falling Waters; one sister-in-law, Alverda Schetrompf of Hedgesville; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Arlie and Hazel Schetrompf, Sally was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Payne; one sister, Mary “Tissy” King; and her three brothers, Kenneth “Nuke” Schetrompf, Lynn “Billy” Schetrompf, and Arlie “Dandy” Schetrompf Jr.
Although Sally will be deeply missed, her family finds peace in knowing that she is now in the presence of the Lord she loved and faithfully served. Her legacy of faith, love, and devotion will live on in the hearts of her family for generations to come.
A service celebrating Sally’s life and faith will be held Friday, August 21, 2026, at Hancock Assembly of God, with receiving friends and family at 10am. Funeral services will begin at 12 with a graveside service to follow at Greenway Cemetery in Berkeley Springs, WV. Pastor Don Preston will officiate.
Arrangements were entrusted to Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street, Hancock, MD 21750. Online condolences can be expressed to the family at www.grfuneralhome.net.
