Millard Hayes Creek, of Hancock, Md., passed away at his home on Friday, February 21, 2014, at the age of 90.

Born May 22, 1923, in Little Orleans, Md., he was the son of the late Raymond W. and Julia Boden Creek, and husband to his first wife, the late Gale Louisa Teter Creek, who passed away in 1989.

He was a 1943 graduate of Flintstone High School, and served in the United States Army 20th Corp Artillery as a cook from 1943 to 1945, during which time he had the honor of serving General Patton a few meals.

He and his late wife owned and operated Creek’s Jewelry and Gifts, in Hancock, for 40 years. They started the business in 1948, with Millard being a certified watchmaker, after graduating from Watchmaker School, in Romney, W.Va.

He was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church for 61 years; a charter member of the Hancock Lions Club; a charter member of the Hancock Rescue Squad; a member of the Webster B. Harrison Post #26; a member of the James W. Bowers Lodge #173 AF & AM; a member of the Ali Ghan Shrine; and a life member of the Tonoloway Rod and Gun Club.

He is survived by his loving wife, Laura Ella Shaw Creek, whom he married on April 22, 1994; two sons, Dr. Donald L. Creek and wife, Ginny, of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Wayne Creek and wife, Vicki, of Hagerstown, Md.; two stepsons, Gary L. Scriever and wife, Kay, of Duncansville, Pa., and Greg Yost and wife, Mary Ann, of Hancock, Md.; a brother, Carl Creek, of Little Orleans, Md.; a sister, Edna Oliver, of Canton, Oh.; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Junie Creek, and Virgil Creek; two sisters, Violet Cochran, and Hazel M. Souders, who passed away on February 19, 2014.

A service will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at 2:00 p.m.,  at the Hancock United Methodist Church, 168 West Main Street, Hancock. Rev. Michael Bynum will officiate. Burial, with a military service by the Tri-State Honor Guard, will be in the Piney Plains United Methodist Cemetery, Little Orleans, Md.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock. For the convenience of family and friends, the Funeral Home will be open from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
