Melvin Kerns

Melvin Eugene Kerns, age 87, of Hancock, Md., died on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at the Williamsport Retirement Village, in Williamsport, Md.

Born Tuesday, May 28, 1929, he was the son of the late Wilbert and Ida G. (Barnhart) Kerns; and was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Jane Kerns, in 1990; and his second wife, Mary Magdalene (Crawford) Kerns, in 2007.

Melvin formerly attended the Black Oak Mennonite Church, in Warfordsburg, Pa.

He was self-employed, cutting pulp wood in the local area.

He is survived by four sisters, Isabelle Keefer, of Williamsport, Md., and Irene Kerns, Janet Deneen and Dorothy L. Smith, all of Hagerstown, Md.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Bowers; and two brothers, Albert and David Neil Kerns.

Friends will be received at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, in Hancock, on Friday, January 6, 2017, from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., and a Memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m., with Rev. Richard E. Rutherford, Jr. officiating.
