Maxine Howell

Maxine H. Howell, age 88, formerly of Hancock , Md., and a resident of Silver Age Services, Martinsburg , W.Va., who the family would like to thank for their caring services, died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at City Hospital in Martinsburg , W.Va .

Born January 7, 1923, in Uniontown , Pa. , she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Nora Strait Edwards, and the widow of Heaston A. "Red" Howell, whom she married March 13, 1939 in Hancock , Md., and who died August 8, 1997.

Maxine and her husband, Red, owned and operated Red's Fruit Stand near Hancock , Md.

She is survived by two daughters; Leona Goedde and husband, Ronald, of Moore Haven, Fl., and Debra Smoot and husband, Alan, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three sons, Arlo Howell and wife, Dean, of Hancock, Md., Roger Howell and wife, Kathy, of Clear Spring, Md., and Jason Howell; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters; Dorothy Esta Everts, and Kathryn Keefer; seven brothers, Melvin Edwards, Garvin Edwards, Glen Edwards, Lynn Edwards, Charles Edwards, Harvey Edwards and Wilmer Edwards.

A service will be held Wednesday, March 9, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock , Md. Rev. Everett Powell will officiate. Burial will be in the Damascus Cemetery , Big Cove Tannery, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, Tuesday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m. For the convenience of family and friends, the Funeral Home will be open from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
