Mary E. Powers, 93, formerly of Hancock, MD and a resident of Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown, MD. Passed away December 19, 2009 at the nursing home.

Born in Hancock , Md. September 17, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Edward P. and Cora (Hill) Fost of Hancock.

She was a 1935 graduate of Hancock High School and received her registered nursing degree from Church Home Hospital in Baltimore , Md. in 1939. Mary was employed as a registered nurse at the Congressional Manor Nursing Home in Bethesda, Md., the medical practice of pediatrician Dr. Emily Black, Bethesda, and as a nursing supervisor at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, Rockville, Md. where she retired from her nursing career in the early 1980's.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles H. "Nuppie" Powers; brothers, Edward Fost, Wm."Bill" Fost, Mark H. Fost, Herbert T. Fost and sisters Moynelle (Fost) Smith and Dorothy V. Fost.

She was a member of the Hancock Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her children: Mary Beth Truax, Big Pool, Md. , Dottie Powers-Fonseca, Maui, Hawaii and C. Rob Powers, Gaithersburg, Md. sister Betty (Fost) Baker of BelAir, Md. Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday January 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hancock Presbyterian Church, Pastor Carol Davis will officiate. Burial was at the convenience of the family in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park Hagerstown, MD.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock Presbyterian Church, c/o Alice Gerber, Treasurer, 17 E. Main St., Hancock, MD  21750.

The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday 1-2 p.m.
