Martha Marie Bernhard, age 97, of Needmore, died Saturday, October 8, 2016, in Clearville, Pa.

Born in Dott, Pa. on Sunday, January 26, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Maple and Bertha Truax Winter, and the widow of Leonard V. Bernhard.

She was a graduate of Warfordsburg High School with the class of 1936, and she attended the Hagerstown Secretarial School, in Hagerstown, Md.

She was a life member of the Cedar Grove Christian Church, in Warfordsburg, Pa.

She was a homemaker, farmer, and she had also worked for the Fulton County School District as a secretary.

She was a member of the Pennsylvania State Grange, and The Order of the Eastern Star in McConnellsburg, Pa.

She is survived by a son, Richard L. Bernhard, of Needmore; two daughters, Janice Mae Layton, of Everett, Pa., and Carolyn Virginia Shives, of Needmore; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Jean Adelsberger.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at the Cedar Grove Christian Church, located at 5806 Flickerville Road, Warfordsburg, Pa. Pastor James Petre will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Church from 10:00 until the Service starts at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016.
