Marlin Leroy Whitfield, Age 87, of Little Orleans, MD, passed away on July 29 at Doey’s House in Hagerstown Md.
Survived by his wife of 66 years, Darle (Dorrier) Whitfield, three children, Danny Whitfield, Yvonne Gish (spouse Jeffrey), Sean Whitfield (spouse Nichole), grandchildren Morgan Gish, Lindsey Sipala (spouse Tony), Payton Gish, Thomas Broadwater, Dakota Whitfield, Nevada Elyse Whitfield, Ethaniel Whitfield, Graysen Whitfield, and Logan Whitfield. Also, three great-grandchildren, Nolan Sipala, Elijah Sipala, and Baylor Sipala. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olney Whitfield and Zora (Shipley) Whitfield.
Marlin graduated from Flintstone High School in 1956. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1959 where he earned the Expert Marksman Badge with the M1 Garand Rifle. He was honored to serve as an artillery specialist and Gunner for a 105mm Howitzer. After his service, Marlin was an employee of the State of Maryland as a State Highway Engineer for 42 years.
Marlin was an avid deer hunter and outdoorsman. He was also known for being an excellent craftsman. Everything he made was built to last. He always enjoyed visiting with his children and grandchildren at events and holidays. He had a heart for stray animals and took in many over the years. Marlin was also an enthusiastic fan of classic western novels and movies. His favorite authors were Louis L’Amour and Patrick F. McManus.
Viewing to be held for family and friends at Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home in Hancock, Maryland on Tuesday, August 4 from 6-7 pm with service to follow for all to attend.
Private family graveside service to be held the following day.
