Margaret Adele (Resley) Wheeler Douglas, age 95, was born September 30, 1922 at her homeplace on Resley Road in Hancock, Md. She was the daughter of the late James Samuel Bowen Resley and Margaret B. (Oliver) Resley.

She departed this world on February 7, 2018 to return home. She had been residing at the home of her son, Rusty Wheeler.

In addition to her parents, Adele was preceded in death by a sister, Florence “Pearl” (Resley) Keefer Wilkerson; a brother, James Resley; her husbands, Morris Wheeler, whom she married February 14, 1946, and Walter Douglas, whom she married January 25, 1981. She was also pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law, Deborah Rebecca (Swaim) Wheeler; and a step-daughter, Carol L. Gloyd.

Adele is survived by her two sons, Lawrence “Larry” Wheeler and his wife, Patti, and Maurice “Rusty” Wheeler and his fiancée, Patti James; grandson, David Maurice Wheeler and his wife, Melanie; great-granddaughters, Sophia and Kara; grandson, James Resley Wheeler and his partner, Kyla Seville; great-granddaughter, Alyia and great-grandson, Landon; granddaughter, Meg (Wheeler) Wrubel and her husband, Frank; great-grandsons, Stone and Alec; granddaughter, Jenna(Wheeler) Haley and her husband, David; great-granddaughters, Addison, Emme and Macie; step-children, Lorraine (Douglas) Murray, Watson Douglas, and Garth Douglas; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Adele graduated valedictorian of her senior class at Hancock High School in 1942. She then attended and graduated from the West Virginia College of Beauty and Culture in 1945.

She and her sister, Pearl, owned and operated K&W Beauty Shop, on Fulton Street, in Hancock for over thirty years.

She was a faithful member of the Hancock United Methodist Church, joining in 1941, and serving over seventy-six years. She was the Communion steward; served with the Camp Joy program for twenty-eight years; was a member of the Seekers Sunday school class; the United Methodist Women; the choir; and the Philattea class.

She had also been a member of Webster B. Harrison, American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #26, Hancock, since 1967.

Adele’s hobbies included vegetable and flower gardening; knitting; crocheting; dancing; reading and studying the Bible; and baking delicious Christmas fruit cakes, which she gifted to family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Hancock United Methodist Church, Camp Joy Program, 168-170 West Main Street, Hancock, Md. 21750; or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Program, PO Box 50, Memphis, Tn. 38101-9929

Adele’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 12:00 noon, at the Hancock United Methodist Church.
