Lula A. Swain, age 88, of Roberts Road, Hancock died Saturday, February 13, 2010 surrounded by her loving family at the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, MD.

Born February 2, 1922 near Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Cleveland Tobias and Mary Elsie Reed Shoemaker and widow of Franklin C. Swain, Sr. who passed away April 15, 1998.

She was a homemaker and had been employed by Fairchild from 1941-1950 as a riveter.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by two daughters; Mary Lou Mullen of Berkeley Springs, WV. and Linda Jean Wolfe of Warfordsburg, PA.; one son, Herbert J. Swain of Hancock; three sisters, Charlotte Keifer of Hagerstown, Ann Knable, Faye Corbett, and Phyllis Shives, all of Hancock; eight grandchildren; twelve great- grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son; Franklin C. Swain Jr; one sister, Mary Hill; and four brothers, Roy Shoemaker, Cleveland "Buddy" Shoemaker, Stanley Shoemaker, and Earl Shoemaker, infant.

Services will be held on Wednesday, February 17 at 2:00p.m. at the Piney Plains United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Close will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St. , Hancock, and at the church one-half hour prior to services on Wednesday.
