Louis Olan Close, age 78, of Hancock, died on Monday, April 27, 2015, at Meritus Medical Center, in Hagerstown, Md.

Born September 18, 1936, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert and Cleda Swaim Close.

He was a 1954 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.

He was retired from the United States Air Force, after 21 years of service; he was a former member of the Hancock Town Council; former Hancock Manager; and was prior owner of the Tri-Angle Restaurant.

He was a member of the Alderson Dawson American Legion Post #60 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and he was a treasurer of the Hancock Chamber of Commerce.

He was a member of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Hancock.

He is survived by his wife, Carol A. Mosier Close, whom he married February 16, 1958, at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church; one daughter, Leslie Close Weller and husband, David, of Hancock; one son, Robert L. Close and wife, Elizabeth, of Hagerstown, Md.; two brothers, Donald S. Close, of Falls Church, Va., and Lynn C. Close, of Winchester, Va.; grandchildren, Lindsey Close Cosden and husband, Adam, of Hagerstown, Md., Heidi Weller and companion, Ronnie Reed, II, of Hancock, Lauren Close, of Hagerstown, Md., David Weller and wife, Chelsea, of Warfordsburg, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Reagan Close and Jase Cosden; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 2 East High Street, Hancock, Md. Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr. and Rev. Kirk E. DeVore will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md.

The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Hancock Rescue Squad, Inc. 57 East Main Street Hancock, Md. 21750, or to St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 2 East High Street Hancock, Md. 21750, or to Interfaith Service Coalition, 116 West High Street, Hancock, Md. 21750.
