Linda Crawford Ruppenthal, 73, of Hancock, passed away on February 28, 2026, after a courageous 16-year battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on October 28, 1952, in Keyser, WV, Linda was the daughter of the late Beula (Beeman) and Raymond Crawford. She was a graduate of Frostburg State University and dedicated her life to education. Linda taught at Hancock High School for 41 years and retired in 2021, concluding an extraordinary 47-year career in teaching. She touched the lives of countless students with her steady guidance, high expectations, and commitment to excellence.
In addition to her work in the classroom, Linda was an active volunteer with the Hancock Athletic Boosters and a faithful member of Hancock United Methodist Church. She especially cherished her Sunday mornings spent with her beloved Sunshine class.
Linda found joy in life’s simple pleasures and shared experiences. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Washington Capitals, loved traveling to cities and beaches across the country, enjoyed cruises, and treasured her many trips to Walt Disney World. She also enjoyed reading and solving crossword puzzles.
Above all, Linda was devoted to her family. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Todd Ruppenthal; her children, Josh (Kendra) Ruppenthal and Hayley (Brad) Shambaugh; and her three cherished grandchildren, Avery, Aubreigh, and Emerick. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn (Alan) Ferry; her brother-in-law, Tim (Jenny) Ruppenthal; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Sniecienski.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 7, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Hancock United Methodist Church. A celebration of life will begin at 11:00 a.m., with a meal to follow.
Linda’s strength, faith, dedication, and love for her family and community will always be remembered by those who were blessed to know her.
