Leona M. Garland Gordon, age 97, of Needmore, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Pennknoll Village, in Everett, Pa.
Born March 3, 1917, in Warfordsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Russell S. and Vida Golden Manning. She was the widow of Sheridan L. Garland, her first husband, who died October 9, 1971, and her second husband, J. Pierce Gordon, who died May 19, 1985.
She was a homemaker, and a member of the Hancock Assembly of God Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also helped the ladies make quilts.
She is survived by one daughter, Geneva L. Duvall and husband, Richard, of Crystal Spring, Pa.; two sons, Harry L. Garland and wife, Sally, of Needmore, and Charles R. Garland and wife, Joyce, of Greencastle, Pa.; two step-daughters, Dorothy Ann Kirk and husband, George Robert, and Martha Jane Hause, both of Waynesboro, Pa.; two sisters, Jeanie Michael, of Williamsport, Md., and Evelyn Potter, of Hagerstown, Md.; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ella Mae Shank, and Margaret C. “Peg” Gordon; one brother, Ronald Manning; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Anne (Chestnut) Garland.
A service will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hancock Assembly of God Church, 431 North Pennsylvania Ave., Hancock, Md. Rev. Don Preston will officiate. Burial in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, in Needmore, will be private.
The family will receive friends at the Church on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm.
Memorial contributions, in her name, may be made to the Hancock Assembly of God, at the above address.
