Junior Wetzel Starliper, age 80, of Hancock, Md., died on Monday, December 5, 2016 at his home.
Born Tuesday, September 22, 1936, in Fulton County, Pa., he was the son of Leroy W. and Rentha (Smith) Starliper; and the widower of Shelvia Jean (Fink) Starliper, whom he married December 30, 1956 in Hancock, and who died February 2, 2002.
He attended Hancock High School; and is of the Christian faith.
He had served as a member of the Maryland National Guard.
He retired in 1980, from Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse store, in Hagerstown, Md., where he had been employed for over thirty years.
He had been a member of the Hancock Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad.
He is survived by two sons, Greg L. Starliper and his wife Tina, of Hancock, and Tony Starliper and his wife, Kathy, of Yorktown, Va.; three grandchildren, Toni Poole, Tyler Starliper and Shawn Starliper; one great-grandchild, Brady Poole; and one sister, Wanda Pickens, of North Carolina.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marguerite Roman, Lorraine Sciese, and Mary Etta Peck; a brother, Freddie Wayne Starliper; and a step-brother, Lee Younker.
The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, on Thursday, December 8, 2016, from 2 until 4:00 p.m. and 6 until 8:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, December 9, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Lisa Unger will officiate. Burial will follow at the Park Head Cemetery, in Big Pool, Md.
