Joseph Theodore (Ted) Wolford

Ted Wolford, 86, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, (Ocala, Florida)  on Thursday, December 28th, 2023.

       He was born on March 9th, 1937 in Hancock, MD.  He was the son of  Robert Theodore Wolford and Dorothy Susan (Yost) Wolford McCullough.

       Ted grew up in the small, historical town of Hancock.  He attended Hancock schools and graduated from Hancock High School in 1955.  After high school, he continued establishing his roots in Hancock and became an active member of the community.   He was employed by the Maryland State Location and Survey Department from 1956 - 1969.  During this time, he also proudly served in the United States Army Reserves from 1960 - 1966.  From 1969 - 2006, he was employed by the Board of County Commissions of Washington County, MD. During his employment with the County Commissions,  he worked with the Washington County Engineering Department (1969 - 1976) and he was the director for the Washington County Highway Department (1976 - 2006).  

       Ted was always eager and willing to promote the quality of life in any community in which he lived.  He never hesitated to give back with his time, his talents, and his moral and/or financial support, and in doing so, he made a positive impact upon each of his communities and its citizens.  He even donated time, effort and support to communities beyond his own.  Until his death, he was a member of the James W. Bowers Masonic Lodge #173 (Hancock, Maryland), Valley of Cumberland Scottish Rite 32° (Cumberland, MD),  Ali Ghan Shriners (Cumberland, MD),  Ocala Shriner Club  (Ocala, Florida), Kentucky Colonels Club of Western Maryland (Hagerstown, MD),  Elks (BPOE) Club (Hagerstown, MD),   American Legion Post #26 (Hancock, MD), where he also served as a commander,   Washington County (MD) Highway Safety Committee,  Washington County (MD) Rural Heritage Museum, an honorary member of Maryland Sheriff’s Institute, a life member and past president of County Engineers Association of Maryland and a member of AARP.

       Ted’s past memberships included: Washington County (MD) Transportation Advisory Committee,  past chairman of Diamond Division United Way (year 2000 - Hagerstown, MD), Hancock Lions Club,  Councilman Town of Hancock,  and Hancock Historical Society (all 3 of Hancock, MD), Thomas Pangborn FOP Lodge #88 (Hagerstown, MD) and an honorary member of Florida Sheriff’s Association. 

       Ted is survived by his sons Joseph T. Wolford, Jr. (Teri) of Pecktonville, MD and David B. Wolford (Amy) of Berkeley Springs, WV; step sons Tod Weber (Debra) of Ashburn, VA and Scott Weber (Michelle) of Lake Norman, NC.  In addition, he is survived by his loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

       Ted was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia Weber Wolford;  his sisters Mary Ann Bishop,  Dorothy Fay Reed and Irma Rose Wolford; his  brothers Robert Grant Wolford and Michael Clark Wolford; and his son, Robert Andrew “Andy” Wolford.

       Visitation will be held on March 9th, at the Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 W Main St, Hancock, MD 21750, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and a service will follow from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
