Jessie Virginia Swadley

Jessie Virginia Swadley, age 81, left her loved ones to be with the Lord on December 10, 2025, at her home in Needmore, PA. She was born on January 11, 1944, in Swanton, MD to Charles and Pearl Harvey. Through her journey of life, she touched so many people with her smile, her love for God and her kind heart. Jessie never met a stranger she wouldn’t talk to.

She graduated from Hancock High School in 1962 and later worked at London Fog, Hepburn Orchards (with many members of her family) and Jefferson Cheese Manufacturing. She was a member of the Needmore Bible Church where she had made so many friends at her Sunday classes.

Jessie was blessed to be a part of a large family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Naomi Sipes, Scharlett Sauter and Linda Silvers; her brothers Bobby Harvey, Bill Harvey, Fred Harvey, Roger Harvey and Arcie Harvey; and a son-in-law Rob Gravelle.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Ray Swadley, whom she married on August 21, 1964; her 2 sons, Ray Swadley Jr. of Millersville, MD and Gene Swadley of Needmore, PA; one daughter, Sherrie Mackey of Chambersburg, PA; five grandchildren, Allison Harvey (Logan), Erika Palamar (Chase), Jess Anthony Swadley (Ana), Cassandra Mackey and Gauge Mackey; and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 1 brother Martin (Drucilla) Harvey; 3 sisters Ruthie (Leroy) Divel, Wilma Leach and Janie (Glen) Smith; and many nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, MD 21750, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 pm officiated by Pastor Brandon Hill of Needmore Bible Church.
