James Edward McKenzie, Sr., age 72, died on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at his home.

Born August 26, 1943, in Frostburg, Md., he was the son of the late Hubert Nelson and Virgie Catherine Minich McKenzie, and the husband of Mary Cecilia Keating McKenzie, whom he married on June 3, 1967 at St. Michaels Catholic Church, in Frostburg, Md.

He was formerly employed by Grove Mfg. Co. and Rayloc, Inc.

He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, in Hancock. He was active in Pro-Life work and church activities.

He was a 1963 graduate of Northern Garrett High School, in Accident, Md.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by children, James Edward McKenzie, Jr.  and wife, Valerie, of Greencastle, Pa., Joseph McKenzie and wife, Carol, of Warfordsburg, Pa., William Paul McKenzie and wife, Aricia, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Andrew McKenzie and wife, Alicia, of Mercersburg, Pa., Therese Betts and husband, Bobby, of Martinsburg, W.Va., Joy Catherine Watkins and husband, Frank, of Hagerstown,  Md.; brothers and sisters, Mary Agnes Burner, of Frostburg, Md., Wilda Deal, of Pocahontas, Pa., Juanita Kelsay, of Frostburg, Johnnie McKenzie, of Frostburg, Judy Rodeheaver and husband, Duane, of McHenry, Md., Katie Frost and husband, Ronald, of Frostburg, and William McKenzie and wife,Vicky, of Williamsport, Md.; twenty grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerome McKenzie; a sister, Catherine Twigg and husband, Bill; brothers-in-law, Donald Deal and Jack Burner; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 8, 2016,at 11:00 a.m., at St. Peter Catholic Church, 16 East High Street, Hancock, with The Rev. John Lombardi officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 7, at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m., and at the Church on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00.
