James Walter DeShong, age 87, of Warfordsburg, died on Friday, April 3, 2015 at his home.
Born May 26, 1927, in Needmore, Pa., he was the son of the late Riley and Linnie DeShong.
He was a graduate of Warfordsburg High School.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was retired from PennDOT as a supervisor, and was a life-long farmer.
He was vice-president of Dott Burial Association.
He was a member of Cedar Grove Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Delphine Sharp DeShong; one daughter, Susan Everts and husband, Eddie, of Warfordsburg; grandchildren, Michael J. Hendershot, of Chambersburg, Pa., Stacy Hendershot Bosko and husband, Jason, of Greencastle, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Ally, Parker, Sydnee, Kira and Jack, all of Greencastle; and one niece, Jean Morton, of Needmore, Pa.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dan DeShong, Norman Deshong and Bill Lewis.
A service will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Cedar Grove Christian Church, 5806 Flickerville Road, Warfordsburg. Rev. William Swope and Pastor Denver Plessinger will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Church on Monday, from 10 until 11 a.m.
Arrangements were handled by the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md.
