James John Deneen, age 85, of Greencastle, died on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at NMS Healthcare, Hagerstown, Md.

Born December 18, 1929 in Amaranth, Pa., he was the son of the late John M. and Alveta J. (Miller) Deneen. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Vivian L. (Mellott) Deneen, on April 30, 2013.

He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren, in Needmore, Pa., where he served as a Lay Minister in years past.

He was a retired restaurant manager for Marriott Corp., and worked at Letterkenny Army Depot until 1969. He also served as a volunteer for the Needmore Boy Scouts; was a past member of the Needmore Volunteer Fire Co.; and an EMT for the Centerville Fire Company, in Centerville, Pa.

He was a veteran of the US Air Force.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Dombrowsky, and Lisa R. Szaflarski, both of Greencastle; and two sons, Dale R. Deneen, of Needmore, and James J. Deneen, II, of Harrison Township, Mi.; one brother, Alfred Deneen, of Warfordsburg, Pa.; four sisters, Oleta Stanley, of Warfordsburg, Pa., Velma Doran, of Monroeville, Pa., Cindy Smith, of Shippensburg, Pa., and Gloria Riggleman, of Winchester, Va.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Milton R., Glenn F., and Eldon L. Deneen; and one sister Caundell Ward.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren, 2507 Pleasant Ridge Road, Needmore. Rev. Roger Truax will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Pleasant Ridge Brethren Church on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and one hour prior to services on Thursday.
