Herbert Irvin Golden, Sr., age 91, of Hancock, Md., passed away on Friday, January 10, 2020 at the War Memorial Hospital, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born in Hancock, on November 30, 1928, he was the son of the late Stanley W. and Cornelia (Mellott) Golden; and the husband of the late Donna Jean (Waugh) Golden, whom he married on October 30, 1949 and who died January 4, 2017.
He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, and served during the Korean war.
He was a member of the Jr.O.U.A.M. # 117, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
At the time of his retirement, he worked for the Operating Engineers, Local 37, in Cumberland, Md.
He is survived by two sons, Herbert I. Golden, Jr. and his wife, Audrey, and Ronald E. Golden and his wife, Debbie; five daughters, Beverly E. Huntzberry and her husband, Dave, Donna G. Mason, Pamela J. Golden, Penny S. Pittman and her husband, Randy, and Barbara A. Younker and her husband, Steve; two sisters, Lora Ann Myers, and Margo Mann; a brother, David Golden; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin, Robert, and William Golden; three sisters, Juanita Dorrier, Jean Keefer, and Darla Hartley; an infant daughter, Brenda Lee Golden; a grandson, Adam Golden; and a very special pet, Jak.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 17, 2020, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, at 11:00 a.m., at the Piney Plains United Methodist Church, 12709 Faith Circle N.E., Little Orleans, Md., with Rev. Sean Coffey officiating. Burial, with Military Honors by the Marine Corp Antietam Detachment League, will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family requests that, in place of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the Piney Plains Church Cemetery Association, at the above address.
