Glenn Charles “Pappy” Ward, age 89, of Warfordsburg, Pa., passed away at his home on Monday, November 21, 2016.

Born January 8, 1927, in Buck Valley, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles and Ruie Ward; and the husband of his loving wife, LaVonne “Bonnie” Shaw Ward, whom he married on April 24, 1954.

Glenn loved his country, and during WWll, he served on a Navy destroyer, the USS Adams, which was involved in many South Pacific battles. During the Korean War, he served in the US Air Force as a radio operator.

He retired from the Leaseway Motor Company, after 35 years of service. After that he became a dedicated school bus driver for the Southern Fulton School District for 30 years. He also owned and operated, with his wife, Bonnie, Ward’s Meat Market, in Warfordsburg.

Glenn was a member of the Warfordsburg United Methodist church.

He was a member of the Warfordsburg Lion’s Club for 46 years; the Warfordsburg Senior Citizens Club; and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Lodge 601, in Warfordsburg. He was a former director of the Board of Aging Advisory Board for Huntington, Fulton, and Franklin counties. He received a Citizens Award from the Chamber of Commerce in 2009.

Glenn was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. Besides his wife, he is also survived by four sons, Dennis Glenn Ward and wife, Lisa, of Greencastle, Pa., Randy Lee Ward and wife, Trecila, of Warfordsburg, Wayne Lynn Ward and wife, Tammy, of Greencastle, and Eugene Charles Ward and wife, Joy Lynne, of Warfordsburg; three sisters, Delma Carnell, of Hancock, Md., Helen Barnhart, of Warfordsburg, and Mary Jean Young, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one brother, Richard Ward, of Hancock; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Claude Ward, Dane Ward, and Roger Ward; and two sisters, Emma Ward and Beatrice Carnell.

The family will receive friends at the Needmore Bible Church, 6939 Great Cove Road, Needmore, Pa., on Friday, November 25, 2016, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.

A funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Frank Kocek will officiate. Burial will follow at the Warfordsburg Presbyterian Cemetery, where graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the Tri-State Honor Guard.

All arrangements were handled by the Grove Funeral Home, in Hancock, Md.
