George Edward Sigel, age 81, of Warfordsburg, Pa., died at his home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, January 24, 2018.

Born Sunday, August 9, 1936, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Elmer Joel and Nellie Irene (Hill) Sigel; and the husband of Anna Maye (Zimmerman) Sigel. They were married for fifty-three years.

He was a 1956 graduate of Southern Fulton Joint High School, in Warfordsburg.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from December, 1959 until he was honorably discharged November, 1965 with the rank of E-5 Armor Crewman.

George was a licensed surveyor in Maryland and Pennsylvania, and owned and operated G&S Surveys.

He was a member of the Bedford Chapel Church, in Warfordsburg.

In addition to his wife, Anna, he is survived by a daughter, Bethany Renee Sigel and her husband, Joseph John Biedenbach, of Camp Hill, Pa.; a son, George Matthew Sigel and his wife, Heather Lynn, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; a granddaughter, Ashley Brooke (Sigel) Blankley and her husband, Steven Blankley, III, of Warfordsburg; step-great-grandchildren, Abigail Marie and Nathaniel William Blankley; a sister, Kathryn Irene Gordon, of Warfordsburg; three brothers, Dale Hill Sigel and his partner, Anna Schultz, of Warfordsburg, Paul Gary Sigel, and his wife, Dorothy, of Warfordsburg, and Donald McKinley Sigel and his wife, Carol, of Greencastle, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Shirley Wheeler Sigel, of Warfordsburg; a brother in-law, Ronnie Royce Zimmerman and his wife, Kimberly, of Hancock, Md.; as well as nine nieces; two nephews; ten great-nieces; four great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces/nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Sigel; and a brother-in-law, Merill Palmer Gordon.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 2 until 4:00 and 6 until 8:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren, 2507 Pleasant Ridge Road, Needmore, Pa.

Funeral services will be held at the church on Monday, January 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard Bernhard, Rev. Roger Truax, and Rev. Carl Sipes officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Christian cemetery, in Warfordsburg. Pallbearers will be Steven Blankley, Mark Bradshaw, Fred Peck, Tom Peck, Rick Sigel and Ron Zimmerman.
