Gary E. “Dave" "Hillbilly” McCarty, age 55, died Sunday, November 6, 2011, at his home.
Born February 3, 1956, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of Dolly Weller McCarty, of Hagerstown, Md., and the late Paul Eugene McCarty.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Lynn Fritz McCarty, on April 15, 2003.
He was of the Protestant faith, and was a graduate of Hancock High School.
He was employed, for 30 years, as a foreman for Beaver Mechanical in Hagerstown.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Besides his mother, he is survived by one son, Vernon E. McCarty, of Mercersburg, Pa.; one daughter, April N. Daley, of Greencastle, Pa.; one brother, Paul D. McCarty, of Greencastle, Pa.; one sister, Penny Morgan, of Hagerstown, Md.; two grandchildren, Josephine Diane McCarty, and Garrett Eugene McCarty, both of Mercersburg. Also surviving is his companion, Gay Gordon.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at the Little Cove Methodist Cemetery, Little Cove Road, Mercersburg, Pa. The Rev. Jeff Hawbaker will officiate.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street, Hancock, Md. For the convenience of family and friends, the Funeral Home will be open from 4 to 8 p.m.
