Gary Wayne Silver, age 66, of Warfordsburg, Pa., passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born October 26, 1951, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Irvin and Betty Jane (Henry) Silver. He was married to his wife and best friend, Candice (Murray) Silver, for forty-four years.
He graduated with the class of 1969 from Berkeley Springs High School, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Gary was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp.; retired from U.S. Silica after forty-one years of employment; and was also co-owner, with his wife, of Diehl’s Jewelry.
He was a member of the American Legion; and served as secretary/treasurer in the Hancock Rotary Club.
He enjoyed many hobbies, including raising Japanese Koi fish, snowmobiling, toy trains, hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, and reading, but his greatest love was entertaining his family and friends with great food and comradery.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Candy; their daughters, Alexa Silver, Christy Waugh, and Maria Castle and her husband, Chris; six beautiful grandchildren, Alicia, Gracie, Bryce, Chase, Brennan and Kyler; one special little great-granddaughter, Violet; a sister, Cathy Rowland and her husband, Jack; and a brother, Gene Silver and his wife, Teresa.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the St. Peter Catholic Church, 16 East High Street, Hancock. Rev. John Lombardi will officiate. Burial, with military honors by the Tri-State Honor Guard, will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
