Frances Louise MacCumbee Trail, 89, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Born June 11, 1937, in Little Orleans, MD, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Orpha Fox MacCumbee and stepmother Susie Barnhart MacCumbee.

Frances graduated from Hancock High School, class of 1955. She went on to be a seamstress, making baby clothes for the Schwab company in Cumberland, MD. After that, she made coats for London Fog in Hancock, MD for thirty years, retiring in 1994.

She spent several years volunteering at Little Orleans fire department in the Ladies Auxiliary.

Frances loved her family and friends deeply. She never met a stranger and cherished late-night visits with family and friends, filled with laughter, conversation, good food, singing, and the playing of gospel hymns. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing, often expressing her love through homemade meals, baked goods, and hand-sewn gifts.

Her faith in the Lord was unwavering and provided her with strength, comfort, and guidance throughout her life. Through every season, she trusted in God's love and grace, finding peace and hope in His promises. Her strong faith was evident in the way she lived, loved others, and faced life's challenges with courage and dignity.

Frances will be remembered for her warm heart, generous spirit, steadfast faith, and the love she shared with all who knew her. ❤️🙏🏻

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Louise Twigg of Cumberland, MD; son Michael William Trail and wife Darlene of Little Orleans, MD; brothers and sisters Jane Ann Sigler, Cecilia (Buttercup) Renner, Donald MacCumbee, all of Hagerstown, MD, and Steve MacCumbee of Missouri; grandchildren Dustie Lundy of Cumberland, MD, Darrin Weller, Sr. of Little Orleans, MD, Arthur Fischer and Randy Fischer both of Berkeley Springs, WV, and Kayla Fischer of Martinsburg, WV; great-grandchildren Shawntell Layman, Elizabeth McGuire, Darrin Weller Jr., John McGuire III, Daizie Weller, Dayton Fischer, Emily Fowler, Cambria Fischer, Chloe Fowler, and Reidar Fischer.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty years, Cecil W. Trail; sons Cecil W. Trail Jr., and Ronald L. Trail; brothers and sisters Paul MacCumbee, Robert MacCumbee Sr., Richard MacCumbee, James MacCumbee, Gary MacCumbee, Larry MacCumbee, Henry MacCumbee, Cheryl Price, Nancy Barney, and Wayne Fox.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 12:00p.m. with two-hour prior visitation from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. at Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, MD 21750. Pastor Daryl (Gene) Trail will officiate. Burial will follow at Piney Plains Cemetery, Little Orleans, MD.
