Edna Joann Santor

E. Joann Divel Santor, age 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 30, 2026, at Doey’s House, in Hagerstown, MD, surrounded by her beloved family.

Joann was beautiful both inside and out. She had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, welcomed, and valued. Even in difficult moments, she radiated warmth, happiness, and hope, spreading joy wherever she was. She was adored by all who met her, and her presence left a lasting imprint on countless hearts.

Born February 2, 1938, in Hancock, MD, she was the daughter of the late Russell Divel and Edna Hixon Divel. Joann graduated from Hancock High School in 1956. She attended Frostburg State Teachers College. On October 28, 1962, Joann married her soulmate, Bernie Santor. Joann worked for the FBI and Washington County Public Schools. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Joann and Bernie built a life full of love and happiness. They were devoted to one another and proud parents to their children, Lisa, Todd, and Jann. Joann’s grandchildren, Karragan and Koleman, were her pride and joy, and she delighted in every moment spent with them, as they did.

During the final two years of Joann’s life, she devoted herself to those around her and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Even while residing in a nursing home, Joann would welcome new residents, socialize with her staff family, offer prayer, encouragement, and testimony to anyone who would listen. This was her mission, her calling, and the way she lived out her faith until the very end.

Joann was preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend, Bernie Santor, the love of her life, whom she missed deeply. She also was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Jeanie Corbett. Though her earthly heart longed for those she had lost, she lived with joyful anticipation of Heaven and anxiously awaited the day she would go home to meet her Lord and be reunited with those who had gone before her.

Joann is survived by her loving children, Lisa Neff and her husband Dave, Todd Santor and his wife Danette, and Jann Hewett and her husband Shannon; her cherished grandchildren, Karragan Hewett and Koleman Hewett, Rachael Haines and Sam Haines; her brother Leroy Divel and his wife Ruthie Divel; and her brother-in-law Don Corbett, many beloved “adopted” children and grandchildren; and countless dear friends.

Jeann leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and unwavering devotion to God and others. Though she will be deeply missed, her family and friends find comfort in knowing she is now at peace, rejoicing in Heaven, and hearing the words she lived her life for:

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Joann’s special angel and “adopted” daughter, Kathy Lilly, the compassionate staff at Coffman’s Nursing Home, and The Doey House Hospice Facility for the exceptional care, comfort, and dignity they provided during Joann’s final journey home. Their kindness and support to both her and her family during this sacred time will always be remembered with heartfelt appreciation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 11:00a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Rev. John Lombardi will be celebrant. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 4, from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, MD 21750. A rosary service will be held at 7:30p.m. on Wednesday, February 4th at the funeral home.
