Earl Kenneth Bowman, age 80, of Hancock, died Sunday, December 25, 2011, at the Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Born October 23, 1931, in Bedford County, Pa., he was the son of the late Earl Dewey and Annie Elizabeth Exline Bowman.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952.

He was retired from the Washington County Board of Education.

He was a member of the Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, and a member of Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church, both in Hancock.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis A. (Getic) Bowman; children, Barbara A. Herbert, of Hancock, Kenneth L. Bowman and wife, Debbie, of Hancock, Trudy K. Bowman, Judy L. Mosier and husband, Herbie, both of Hancock; sisters, Ethel Barnhart, and Ruth Young; grandchildren, Stanley Swisher, Zacharia Bowman, Bethany Bowman-Stansberry and Seth Bowman; great granddaughter, Destini Swisher and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Herbie Mosier, III; sister, Anna Mae Wade; and brother, Elmer Bowman.

A service will be held Thursday, December 29, at 11:00 a.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md. Rev. Philip Unger will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Cemetery, Hancock.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. For the convenience of family and friends, the Funeral Home will be open from 3 to 8 p.m.
