Dolores Jean McCarthy, age 79, of Hancock, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Williamsport Retirement Village in Williamsport, Md., surrounded by her loving family.

Born June 8, 1933, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Ethel L. Coffman Wink, step-father Carl Wink, and father Garfield Shifflet.

She attended Hancock area schools.

She was formerly employed, as a waitress, at the Park-n-Dine Restaurant, in Hancock.

She was a life-long member of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, in Hancock. She also attended, and was a member of Parkhead United Methodist Church, in Big Pool, Md., and also the Ladies Aide Society of the Church.

She enjoyed bowling; was an avid vegetable and flower gardener; and she enjoyed spending time sitting on her porch.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Roy W. McCarthy; two daughters, Gina L. Turner and husband, Eddie, of Hagerstown, Md., and Kelli L. Shives and husband, Doug, of Mercersburg, Pa.; two sons, Michael L. McCarthy, Sr., of Hancock, and fiancée, Jan Bowers, of Frederick, Md., and Rodney L. McCarthy and wife, Barb, of Clear Spring, Md.; two sisters, Mary E. “Libby” Keefer, of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Donna Semler, of Hagerstown, Md.; one brother, William Shifflet and wife, Judy, of Hancock; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one half-brother, Garfield “Sonny” Shifflet, Jr.

A service will be held on Thursday, September 20, at 11:00 a.m., at the Parkhead United Methodist Church. Pastor Scott Summers and Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, in Hagerstown, Md.

The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, in Hancock, on Wednesday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m. For the convenience of family and friends, the Funeral Home will be open from 12 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Parkhead U.M. Church Building Fund, c/o Pastor Scott Summers, 11404 Tedrick Drive, Big pool, Md. 21711. Flowers will also be accepted.
