Delores Ann (Barnhart) Barling, of Needmore, Pa., a loving, warm-hearted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away on January 5, 2019, at the Fulton County Medical Center Long Term Care, in McConnellsburg, Pa., returning home to her Savior and Lord.
She was born at home, in Warfordsburg, Pa., on May 22, 1941, the daughter of the late William Palmer and Mildred “Millie” Ruth (Mellott) Barnhart. She was raised in Fulton County, Pa., where she was an integral part of the community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Meredith Morris “Tex” Barling, who died May 10, 2006.
Delores was fiercely loyal, incredibly strong…her laugh was infectious and her love lives on. Those who were lucky enough to know her will attest that “Dorie” made you feel loved and cared for…family, friends, neighbors and patients always came before herself. In her free time, she enjoyed reading mystery novels and playing Bingo, fishing, mushroom hunting and gardening with her late husband and her family…and there wasn’t a yard sale she didn’t hit the brakes for.
She graduated in 1959 from the Southern Fulton High School, and moved to Washington, D.C. to become a telephone operator. In 1960 she married Meredith, and they soon moved to Texarkana, Tx., where their three children were born. Fourteen years after graduating high school, she went to college to obtain her LPN degree. In 1977, she returned to Needmore, where she worked as a skilled nurse, caring for her patients at the Fulton County Medical Center. She retired in 2003 after twenty-six years of nursing.
Delores was an active member of the Needmore Bible Church, and she enjoyed visiting with the “old folks” (as she lovingly referred to them) at the Fulton County Senior Center. She doted on her grandchildren, and in her lifetime, attended enough baseball and soccer games, pageants, parades, graduations and plays to deserve an award.
Dorie is survived by her three children, Donna Sue (Barling) Deike and her husband, Jeff, of Mercersburg, Pa., William Foster “Billy” Barling and his wife, Linda, of Needmore, Pa., and Robert Morris Barling, of Needmore; two brothers and their spouses, William Carl “Bill” Barnhart and Ruby (Miller) Barnhart, of Needmore, and Roger Lee Barnhart and Kimberly Pensinger, of Fort Loudon, Pa.; a sister, Mary Louise and William “Billy” Cromwell, of Needmore; a brother-in-law, Allen Hollinshead, of McConnellsburg, Pa.; her grandchildren and their partners, Tamara Deike and Corey Stewart, of Los Angeles, Ca., Mitchell Deike and Nicole Eister, of Oklahoma City, Ok., Levi Deike and Abigail Turner, of Philadelphia, Pa., Spring (Ulsh) Womble and Gary Foster, of Martinsburg, W.Va., Nickole (Barling) Bricker and Matthew Bricker, of Waynesboro, Pa., and Jaden, Jordan, and Jacob Barling, of Waynesboro; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Faye Hollinshead.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 10, 2019, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Needmore Bible Church, 6939 Great Cove Road, Needmore, Pa., and for one hour prior to the funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 11, 2019, at the church. Pastor Douglas Poffenberger and Pastor Dick Bernhard will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Sidling Hill Primitive Baptist Cemetery, in Needmore.
Flowers or memorial donations in her name may be made to the Needmore Bible Church.
