David Joe Longmire, 77, of Georgetown, KY, passed away on May 27th, 2026, in Hancock, MD.
David was born in Dayton, OH, on January 26th, 1949, to the late Samuel Hayes Longmire and Emily Joe Butler Longmire. He spent his childhood in the Karns community of Knox County, TN, with his brother Dennis Longmire and a large extended family. He always cherished family, friendships, and the value of hard work, which was instilled in him on the family farm. He graduated from Karns High School and went on to attend the University of Tennessee. In 1975, he married Kathy Walker Longmire, the love of his life.
David was a dedicated husband and father who worked in the agricultural industry across multiple organizations in numerous states, serving in sales, marketing, and management roles. His successful career spanned several companies, including Central Soya, Archer Daniels Midland, McNess, McCauley Brothers, Alltech, and, most recently, Cargill.
David was known for his quick wit, kind heart, and ability to bring light to any situation. His deep love for family was matched by his enthusiasm for University of Tennessee athletics, fishing, and Atlanta Braves baseball. He also cherished the company of others and never passed up the chance to explore a good auction. Thankfully, he was able to enjoy these passions until his passing.
David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathy Walker Longmire, of Georgetown, KY; his son, Henry Samuel Longmire (Kristi), and his pride and joy grandchildren, Emily Kate and Carter, of Saint Johns, FL; his daughter, Jennifer Longmire, of Greencastle, PA; and his beloved brother, Dennis Longmire, of Georgetown, OH.
In keeping with David’s wishes, no formal memorial service will be held. A private gathering with family and friends will take place near his childhood home in Karns. The family invites you to honor his memory in your own special way.
