Hancock, Maryland

Carson Johnson, Sr., age 92, of Hancock, died on Monday, November 2, 2015 at Meritus Medical Center, in Hagerstown, Md.

Born September 16, 1923, in Jonesville, Va., he was the son of the late Monroe and Della F. (Osborne) Johnson, and widower of the late Virginia M. Smith Johnson, who died January 30, 2001.

He was a life member of the Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, in Hancock, where he served as a Deacon , Sunday-School Superintendent, and Teacher.

He was a self-employed home builder and farmer.

He was a veteran of the US Army.

He is survived by his children, Madeline McHoul, and Carson Johnson, Jr., both of Hancock, Carolyn Witt, of Preston, Md., Jo Ann Desjardin, of Celina, Tx., Kenny Johnson, of Hancock, and Joy Johnson, of Eden, N.C.; eleven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two brothers Monroe Johnson, Jr., of Baltimore, Md., and Blaine Johnson, of Charlotte, N.C.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Perry Johnson, and two brothers, Cecil and Billy Lee Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, in Hancock. Rev. Harry E. Strite and Rev. Paul Martin will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 6, 2015, from 2 until 4 p.m and 6 until 8 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, and one hour prior to services at the Church.
