Betty Friend Ward Fischer, age 95, of 215 Fischer Farm Lane, Warfordsburg, PA, entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Quincy Village, Waynesboro, PA.
Born July 18,1930, in Amaranth, PA, she was the daughter of the late Amos A. and Ora E. Scriever Ward. She was married to George M. “Mickey” Fischer, Jr. in Hagerstown, MD on March 11, 1950. They were married seventy-one years. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2021.
In her early years, she worked at Buck Valley Tomato Cannery and Town Hill Restaurant as a waitress. After she got married, she was first a homemaker, then a cook at Southern Fulton School District, a waitress at Whiteside’s Restaurant in Crystal Springs and finally a line server at the Breezewood Post House where she also served as a union representative until her retirement.
Betty loved baking pies, making homemade ice cream, and soup for her family. She enjoyed watching WWF wrestling and the Grand Ole Opry. She had many favorite hymns she loved to sing any day of the week. She was happiest when her grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit. She will be dearly missed by her great-grandpup Carson who loved to lay with her and sleep by her side.
She was a member of Whips Cove Church, Warfordsburg.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters. Gary L. Fischer and his wife Barbara, Roger L. Fischer and his wife Theresa, Larry E. Fischer all of Warfordsburg, PA; Diane E. Whiteside and her husband Mike of Warfordsburg, Karen M. Brennan and her husband Garry, of Chambersburg, PA; fourteen grandchildren, Bobby Fischer, Mark Fischer, Lisa Layton, Jennifer Shaw, David Fischer, Christie Lee Kolich, Jason Fischer, Justin Fischer, Amy Fischer, Bradley Whiteside, Brian Whiteside, Shonda Price, Matthew Brennan, and Amber Brennan; twenty-four great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, eleven step great grandchildren, nine step great-great-grandchildren, her twin brother, Billy L. Ward and wife Madeline, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Hayes, Herbert, Albert, Eugene, and Clifford Ward; six sisters, Janet Schetrompf, Margaret Yonker, Dorothy Shank, infant sister, Naomi Bohrer, June Ziler. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Whips Cove Church, 5044 Moss Road, Warfordsburg, PA and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday.
A funeral service will be held on Friday February 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., at Whips Cove Church. Pastor Delmas Bard and Pastor Bill Croteau, Jr. will officiate. Internment will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Jerusalem Cemetery Association ℅ John McKee, 134 Reunion Ground Road, McConnellsburg, PA 17233.
