Bertha “Lue” Lucille (Reed) Keefer, 92, Hancock, MD., passed away peacefully at her home August 16, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Born September 12, 1930, at Millstone, MD., she was the daughter of the late Earl and Hilda Mae Gordon Reed and the stepdaughter of the late Katherine Reed.
She was married to her late husband, Floyd Joseph Keefer, Sr., for 71 years.
She was of Methodist faith.
Lue was an angel on earth, always loving and caring. She was a homemaker and housewife; everyone called her Nanny.
She was a master cook and baker. She loved fixing meals for her family, spending time together, and sharing memories.
Lue’s other hobbies were watching cooking shows and nature programs and sitting in her chair watching the birds. She loved cardinals and hummingbirds.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah K. (Paul) Apple, of Berkeley Springs; four grandchildren, Lisa Bivens, Lori (Cody) Yost, Kristy Spring and Joseph Keefer; six great-grandchildren, Cody Bivens, Matthew Bivens, Cedric Yost, Gracey Mae Yost, Reece Yost and Wyatt Spring; a great-great-granddaughter on the way, Lucille Presley Yost; three sisters, Lois (Ralph) Hobday, of Berkeley Springs, Carol Sanchuck and Dorothy Spielman, both of Hancock, MD.; and five brothers, William Reed, of Clear Spring, MD., Ray and Roger Reed, both of Hancock, MD., Carl Reed, of Warfordsburg, PA., and Harry Reed, of Berkeley Springs, WV.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Joseph Keefer, Jr.
Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
