Hancock, Maryland

Barbara Breakall Wolford, age 73, passed away, peacefully, at her home on Saturday, November 16, 2013.

She was born at home, in Hancock, on February, 10, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Andrew and Jessie Mae Stotler Breakall.

She was raised in the town of Hancock by her parents, who were the owners and operators of the S.R. Breakall and Sons Feed and Flour Mill. She attended the original Hancock Elementary and High Schools, and during her senior year, she attended and graduated from the new High School in 1958. She is an alumni of the University of Maryland.

She was employed by the Washington County Board of Education, as a Guidance Counselor Assistant, for thirty-five years. However, as many know, she was more than just an assistant. She performed many tasks outside of her job description, including, but not limited to, being a mentor to numerous students. She touched the lives of thousands of students.

As a child, family was extremely important to her. As an adult, she spent her entire life loving and nurturing her children, her grandchildren, and many children belonging to others. She lovingly gave to numerous Non-Profit charities.

She is survived by her three sons, Joseph T. Wolford, Jr. and wife, Teri, of Pecktonville, Md., Robert Andrew Wolford, and David Brian Wolford, both of Hancock; David's Wolford's best friend, Amy Dawson; grandchildren, Tucker Ray Gladhill, of Woodbridge, Va., Zachary James Wolford, and Jordan Dallas Wolford, both of Hagerstown, Md., Maggie Diane Wolford, of Martinsburg, W.Va., Lily Abigail Wolford, and Jesse David Wolford, both of Hancock, Taylor Brooke Wolford, of Pecktonville, Md., and Bridget Dawson, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two brothers, Paul Lester Breakall and wife, Ruth, of Hagerstown, Md., and Charles Ramsey Breakall, of Deep Creek, Md.; a sister, Phyllis Levesta Breakall Bradley, of Hagerstown, Md.; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Hawbaker Breakall, of Hancock.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Oscar "Mickey" Breakall and wife, Marty, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Gary Francis Breakall, of Hancock.

The family will receive family and friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md., from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., on Friday, November 22. For convenience, the Funeral Home will be open after 12:00 noon that day.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 23, at 11:00 a.m., at the Funeral Home. The Rev. Mary Alice Douglas will officiate, and Father John J. Lombardi will assist. Interment will be at St. Peter Catholic cemetery, 16 East High Street, Hancock.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hancock Rescue Squad, 6 East Main Street, Hancock, Md. 21750 or to the Hancock Fire Company, 3 Fulton Street, Hancock, Md. 21750.
