Aura Blanche McCusker, age 89, of Hancock, Md., passed away on Monday April 8, 2019 at her home.
Born September 28, 1929, in Amaranth, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George E. and Katherine B. (Carnell) Ward; and the widow of Robert Calvin McCusker, whom she married January 26, 1947 and who passed away on February 7, 2011.
She was a member of the Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church, in Hancock, and was a former church treasurer there.
She was a member of the Hancock Rescue Squad Auxiliary; the Webster B. Harrison Post 26 Auxiliary; a charter member of the Hancock Historical Society; a member of the Red Hat Society; a volunteer for Meals on Wheels; a member of the Wash. Co. Commission on Aging; a member of the Interfaith Service Coalition; and a volunteer for Christmas For Others.
She loved to quilt and sew in her spare time.
Aura and her husband owned and operated Bob’s 66 Service Station and Fruit Stand on Sidling Hill from 1954 until 1986.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann Mazingo and her husband, Dennis, of Hagerstown, Md., Sandra Watring and her husband, Elmer, of Parsons, W.Va., and Vickie Vann, of Hancock; eight grandchildren, Becky Watson and her husband, Kenny, of Hancock, Scott McCusker and his wife, Betty, of Hancock, Tim Vann, of Hancock, Andrew Vann, of Martinsburg, W.Va., Patrick Mazingo and his wife, Lisa, of Hagerstown, Md., Hubert Watring, of Hedgesville, W.Va., Joe Watring and his wife, Amy, of Hedgesville, and Edgar Watring, of Beverly, W.Va.; seventeen great-grandchildren, Katie, Autumn, Justina, Jada, Brooklyn, Amber, Brittany, Elizabeth, Makayla, Lindsay, Jacob, Nick, Jonathan, Thomas, Jared, Hunter, and Dylan; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Hedy Yost, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and a brother-in-law, Henry McCusker, of Hancock.
Aura was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert C. McCusker, and an infant son, William G. McCusker; three brothers, Paul, Clyde and Raymond Ward; a daughter-in-law, Susan McCusker; a son-in-law, Peter Vann; and three grandsons, Bill McCusker, Vincent McCusker, and Eric Mazingo.
The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street, Hancock, Md., on Thursday, April 11, 2019, from 2 until 4:00 and 6 until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, April 12, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Philip Unger will officiate. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olivet Presbyterian cemetery, 14253 Exline Road, Hancock.
