Arthur Leonard Lucas, age 86, of Hancock, died Monday, August 12, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md.
Born April 10, 1927, in Warfordsburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Richard Lee and Margaret Elizabeth Hill Lucas, and the husband of Idella Vernedia Trail Lucas, who died August 21, 2008.
He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He retired in 1989 as a superintendent for Maryland State Park Service at Fort Frederick.
He is survived by one son, Arthur Norty Lucas, of Big Pool, Md.; six grandsons, Marty Adams, Randy Adams, Darren Lucas, Devin Lucas, Dereck Wollaston, and Shane Wollaston; two great-grandsons, Joshua and Trenton Lucas.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra Adams Lucas, and Tammy D. Di Nenna; four brothers, Nathan Lucas, William Lucas, Sidney Lucas, and Richard Lucas; and two sisters, Bernice Smith, and June Gearhart.
A service will be held on Saturday, August 17, at 11:00 a.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md. Rev. Jack Hiles, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Parkhead Cemetery, Big Pool, Md.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
