Send With Love
Hancock, Maryland
Adona (Brown) Burnett, age 90, our precious and faithful mother, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of April 6, 2020, surrounded by her family at her daughter’s home in Fishersville, Va.
She was born May 27, 1929, in Richfield, Ut., to the late Alburn Adonis and Clara Ellen (Ellett) Brown; the fifth child of eleven that were raised in Bicknell, Ut.
She graduated from Bicknell High School in 1947.
She worked for J.C. Penney Co. and Zions Bank, in Salt Lake City, Ut., as an elevator operator. In 1957 she moved to Calif. to work at Douglas Aircraft, in Santa Monica. There she looked forward to going to the beach every Saturday, and enjoyed going dancing often, which was her first true love!
In 1958, she moved to Pittsburg, Pa. to live with her sister, Maxine Omps. There she met Charles Roger Burnett, who was a widower with three little boys. They dated, and were married on February 7, 1959 in Elkins, W.Va. She then moved to Hancock, Md. to start her new life with Roger and her three new step-sons. They had three additional children, Diana, Bradley and Belinda Kristen. They lived in Hancock until Roger passed away in 2003. She then moved to American Fork, Ut. to live closer to her brothers and sisters. Five years later, she was diagnosed with dementia and moved back east to live with her daughter, Diana, who cared for her until her death.
Adona loved gardening, quilting, cooking, and working in the family business for many years, the Park-N-Dine Restaurant in Hancock.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings throughout the various auxiliaries. She was also a temple worker in the Washington, D.C. and Mount Timpanogos Temples.
She is survived by one daughter, Diana Hanna-McCarty (Craig), of Fishersville, Va.; one son, Bradley Burnett (Carolee), of Herriman, Ut.; one step-son, Steve Burnett (Linda), of Bel Air, Md.; nine grandchildren, Laura, Holly, Zachary, Matthew, Heather, Aaron, Kristin, Kasey and Rachel; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Valoy Brown; and a sister, Beverly Brian, both of Ut.
In addition to her parents and husband, Adona was preceded in death by a daughter, (baby) Belinda Kristen Burnett; grandsons, (baby) Bryce David Hanna, and Douglas Durran Burnett; siblings, Deon Brown, Cleon Brown, Vanor Brown, Maxine Omps, Evelyn Bagley, Darlene Farnsworth, Lew Stephenson Cook, (baby) Diana Brown; brothers-in-law, Jim Omps, James Stephenson, Arlow Farnsworth, Garth Bagley and Dudley Brian; and sisters-in-law, Verus Brown, Pauline Brown and Elaine Brown.
Adona fought a tough, twelve-year battle with dementia, pushing through gracefully. She always had a positive attitude and a smile for everyone she met. She was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed life and always brightened the lives of others.
A memorial to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
